Now here's a fascinating development. According to one source (a nameless Big 12 coach), a 16-team PAC 10 with an Eastern Division (Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Colorado, Arizona and Arizona State) and a Western Division (Southern California, UCLA, Standford, California, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State) would not have a conference championship between the winners of the two divisions. Instead, it would seek to have the BCS declare the winners of the two divisions both be eligible for a BCS bowl, which could mean the winners of the divisions could presumably face each other in the national championship game.
"The PAC-10 doesn't believe in a (conference) championship game," the coach said. "And coaches in the Big 12 don't like it anyway."
