In case the name Andrew Garfield doesn't immediately ring a bell, he was the lad who was hopelessly smitten by the title character's daughter in The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus. But if you really want to see his acting chops on display, rent a copy of the movie Boy A. At any rate, the 27-year-old British actor has been signed to play Peter Parker in the next installment of the Spider-Man franchise.
But what I find more interesting is that Meryl Streep will play former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in a film appropriately entitled Thatcher. The film will concern itself with the 17 days leading up to the war in the Falkland Islands, a skirmish that wound up doubling Thatcher's approval ratings and ensuring her re-election at a time when many thought her vulnerable. Jim Broadment will play her husband in the film to be directed by Phyllida Lloyd, who also directed Streep in Mama Mia.
I'm betting either Garfield or Streep will get an Oscar nomination for their respective performance. No fair guessing on which one I'm putting my money on.
