Celebrating the Packards, Southwest Airlines and all the other heroes
I've never met Chris and Cathy Packard and I probably never will. But that doesn't stop them from entering my personal Hall of Fame. The Packards donated 25 percent of what was needed to make sure that an undefeated team of underprivileged boys from Southeast Dallas got the opportunity to play for the national championship of Pop Warner Football. Not only that, Southwest Airlines made sure the kids wouldn't have to ride a charterd bus between Dallas and Orlando, Fla. Not all stories earn a happy ending. But this one did, regardless of how far the Southside Falcons advance in the 64-team, seven-day tournament.
