The reaction from Dallas City Council members to the idea of having the Dallas Zoological Society take over the operations at the city's zoo has been overwhelmingly positive during today's council briefing on the idea. Even council member Carolyn Davis, who, as usual, didn't really understand the concept, seems ready to vote in favor of the transfer when it comes before the council for a vote a week from today.
What I did find amazing about today's briefing was the overwhelming praise for the zoo from the council members. Have these people ever visited a real zoo -- San Diego, Bronx, Washington, Chicago, even the Fort Worth Zoo? The Dallas Zoo has a long way to go to reach the levels of those institutions.
Council member Tennell Atkins did not attend today's briefing, so I don't know which way he'll vote, but I'm guessing next week's decision on this could quite easily be unanimous in favor of the deal.
