What if Hollywood threw a big party and no one came?

According to a story in today's Los Angeles Times, several big-name Hollywood actors are saying they will not cross picket lines to attend the Golden Globes ceremonies. That's significant because the Writers Guild is on strike and unless that is resolved by the time of the Globes (unlikely) or the WGA grants the Globes a waiver (a possibility), the writers will picket the event. These are the folks that put the words into the mouths of the actors and the actors know that. Thus they respect and say they will honor the writers' demands.

The Times claims John Travolta will show up regardless, but nominees such as Tom Wilkinson and James McAvoy won't.

There's another twist. Joel and Ethan Coen, nominated for directing "No Country for Old Men," are among those Hollywood hyphenates known as writers-directors. If the strike is still going on at the time of the ceremonies, how are they going to feel coming to a party during which they are supposed to be schmoozing with the studio types they are striking against.

Stay tuned.
